
Elizabeth “Liz” Shannon retired from the Nantucket Hearth Division in 2020 after 26 years of service as a Hearth Captain and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). She holds fond recollections of her occupation and private connections to the Island neighborhood the place she raised two daughters, served quite a lot of neighborhood organizations, and embraced a lifelong ardour of fishing.
Following a prognosis of sarcoidosis in 2019, Liz was pressured to resolve between her profession and her healthspan. She took the problem to depart a profession that she cherished, and pursue a more healthy, reduced-toxin life-style within the Monadnock area of New Hampshire. She strives to scale back the signs of her incurable sickness with as few conventional medicines as potential and embraces her new life-style with gratitude and acceptance.
Liz hopes to mentor others to find the rewards of service and pursues this aim by educating EMT and CPR programs. As somebody who loves multi-generational connections, she can also be a substitute elementary trainer and serves as a Lake Host for the NH Lake Affiliation. Liz volunteers with Casting for Restoration and the Harris Heart for Conservation. She is keen about spending time in nature, particularly fly fishing, mountain climbing, and gardening. Moreover, she loves yoga, cooking, e-book golf equipment, and touring. Her “completely happy place” is having her morning cup of espresso overlooking her backyard whereas watching songbirds, caring for her small flock of chickens, and taking her senior yellow lab Luna for a gradual stroll. Add in a go to from one or each of her daughters who stay in CO and RI, and he or she’s having the right day! Throw in a while on the river with a trout on the fly, and he or she’s in her model of Heaven.
