Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the spouse of Supreme Court docket Justice Clarence Thomas, has agreed to sit down for an interview with the Home Jan. 6 committee, her lawyer advised The Hill on Wednesday evening.
“As she has mentioned from the outset, Mrs. Thomas is raring to reply the Committee’s inquiries to clear up any misconceptions about her work referring to the 2020 election,” her lawyer, Mark Paoletta, mentioned in a press release, reported first by CNN. “She seems ahead to that chance.”
The committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol requested Thomas to talk with the panel in June.
Thomas has confronted elevated scrutiny over her potential position within the lead-up to the Jan. 6 riot, after it was revealed that she communicated with former White Home chief of workers Mark Meadows and Trump lawyer John Eastman about contesting election outcomes and pressured lawmakers in each Wisconsin and Arizona to overturn the ends in their states.
Thomas initially appeared keen to look earlier than the committee, saying she couldn’t wait to “clear up misconceptions.” Nonetheless, her lawyer later mentioned he didn’t see a necessity for her to testify and requested for “higher justification.”
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the panel’s vice chairwoman, threatened to subpoena Thomas in July if she selected to not seem earlier than the committee voluntarily.
