Coherent optics have been the go-to answer for high-end optical transport methods for years. Finally these optics had been modularized and with latest advances in DSP design and optics manufacturing, this know-how is now accessible in small kind issue pluggable modules. Cisco acknowledged the significance of this know-how and bought the trade’s chief on this area, Acacia Communications in March of 2021. Tom Williams leads advertising efforts for the Acacia coherent optics crew that was acquired by Cisco in March 2021. Tom has spent over 20 years growing optical transmission tools starting from 10G to 1.2T. He participates in a wide range of coherent standardization actions in OIF, IEEE and Open ROADM and is co-chair of the OpenZR+ MSA. Tom spent almost 15 years in varied administration roles at Optium, the place he participated within the firm’s 2006 IPO and 2008 acquisition by Finisar. Tom joined Acacia in 2015, the place his function has included company and product advertising duty, in addition to contributing to product roadmap definitions.
